Florida Gulf Coast University is asking for $9 million to research red tide

The coast might be clear of red tide, but scientists at Florida Gulf Coast University haven’t stopped looking into it.

The university recently sent a letter to Governor Ron Desantis asking the state for $9 million to pay for its proposed research project.

“These are taxpayer funds and we will use them as careful and efficiently as possible, realizing this is to the benefit of all of us in SWFL and the state, this is a big deal, we know this is a big deal,” said Dr. Mike Parsons, Professor of Marine Science at FGCU.
