Deputies found multiple stolen weapons after searching the house of a Lehigh Acres teen in connection with a shooting that took place at a Family Dollar in Lehigh Acres on Thursday.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, at 2:53 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to reports of shots being fired at the Family Dollar store, located at 630 Bell Boulevard in Lehigh Acres. After arriving on the scene, LCSO said that deputies quickly identified a local 16-year old as the suspect, one who had several felony arrests in the past. The Naples Herald doesn’t publicize the names or faces of suspects who are minors.
Deputies detained the teen and secured the area around his home, which is across the street from the Family Dollar. LCSO said that detectives executed a search warrant and discovered two rifles and a pistol hidden in the attic of the home. One of the rifles and pistols were allegedly stolen in an unrelated vehicle burglary.
“We will not tolerate anyone putting others in danger and those that do will be arrested and jailed,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno.
The teen was arrested and charged with five firearms offenses and vehicle burglary. The LCSO does not believe the case to be related to any other ongoing cases. Two multi-victim shootings have that took place in Fort Myers over the last week are still under investigation.
