LCSO ID’s Bell Tower victims; shooting was a targeted act

Officials stress the shooting was not random; it was not a mass shooting

Lee Herald Favicon 16More information is coming to light, but many questions remain unanswered as the Lee County Sheriff’s Office released the names of those killed during last night’s shooting at the Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers.

Two men, Kevin Robinson, 56 and Javarcia Riggins, 22, were killed by the gunfire. One woman, who has yet to be identified, is in critical condition and being treated at a local hospital. Another man was injured by broken glass, but Marceno said that his injuries were minor.

According to the LCSO, at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night, deputies responded to reports of shots fired at the Bell Tower. Sheriff Carmine Marceno said that a group was leaving the TGI Friday’s located in the shopping center, where they had finished having a meal, and as they entered the parking lot, shots were fired.

The sheriff has repeatedly stressed that the shooting was not a random act of violence but that the attack was specifically targeted.

“This is not random,” said Marceno during a press conference on Wednesday. “This was a targeted incident. The investigation remains active, the public is encouraged to come forward with any tips.”

Law enforcement has not commented on a suspect at this time.

Marceno said that the scene is still under investigation and will be through the morning an into the afternoon. Stores at the shopping center are open, but part of the parking lot is blocked off by crime scene tape.
