Man throws woman to ground after argument over dog; convicted of battery

Lee Herald Favicon 16A North Fort Myers man is facing up to life in prison after being convicted of throwing a woman to the ground after the had an argument about her dog.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, in June 0f 2017, 60-year old John Thomas Petterson had an argument with an neighbor outside their homes in North Fort Myers over the woman’s dog. The victims eventually walked away from the argument, and across the street to her home. Petterson followed her onto the screened-in porch and grabbed the victim by the arms and neck, throwing her to the ground. She was eventually able to call 911 and sustained no serious injuries.

A jury found Petterson guilty on the charge of first degree burglary with assault or battery after less than an hour of deliberation during his trail in a Lee County court room. The North Fort Myers man is being held at the Lee County Jail and is scheduled to appear for sentencing on October 9.
