FHP: Woman fled fatal hit-and-run near Ft. Myers Beach with three children in car

Lee Herald Favicon 16A hit-and-run driver is in custody after fleeing the scene where her car, which contained three young children, struck and killed a pedestrian on Tuesday night in Fort Myers.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 10:14 p.m. on Tuesday night 70 year-old Alfred Lebeau of Fort Myers was walking along San Carlos Boulevard, south of Broadway Avenue. Reports say that Lebeau stepped off of the sidewalk and entered the path of a 2003 Chevy Malibu driven by 26 year-old female Angel Martinez.

The front of the car then struck Lebeau, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

After the crash, Martinez fled the scene northbound on San Carlos, but was found about 3.5 miles away by deputies.

It was then discovered that three young children were also passengers in the vehicle.

The FHP report states that charges are pending.
