K-9 apprehends suspect in Lehigh Acres stabbing

Lee Herald Favicon 16A suspect in a Lehigh Acres stabbing attack that left one victim dead and another wounded over the weekend is under arrest after being apprehended by a K-9 unit.

According to a brief from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday evening deputies responded to a call from one of the two victims of 26 year-old stabbing suspect Michael Swisher in Lehigh. Swisher is said to have been a long-time friend of the family.

Deputies found both victims, the 46 year-old man who called for help and 47 year-old Tara Binkly, and both were transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery.

After being tracked from the air, the suspect, who had fled on foot before deputies arrived, was apprehended by a K-9 in a wooded area near Clark Avenue where he had hidden.

Swisher was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injures he had received during the chase.

The male victim who called deputies sustained life-threatening wounds but is in stable condition after receiving treatment. Reports say that the female victim, Binkly, died from multiple stab wounds delivered during the attack.

“Sheriff Scott and I could not be more proud of the men and women of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office who work tirelessly to investigate and bring closure to these violent crimes,” said Undersheriff Carmine Marceno.

Swisher was arrested and charged on Sunday with murder and attempted murder after being released from the hospital.
