Burglars thwarted by gun-toting neighbor

Lee Herald Favicon 16A pair of alleged car thieves are in custody after one of their would-be victims held the suspects on the scene with a firearm until deputies arrived Wednesday morning.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday a victim reported that his Chevrolet Silverado had been broken into near the 13000 block of Hampton Park Court in Fort Myers.

The victim was told by a neighbor about the robbery right after it occurred, and he attempted to search for the perpetrators and their vehicle. He located the suspects’ red 2002 Honda Accord just as they were exiting the car in order to apparently attempt another burglary. After the suspects left the vehicle, the victim found his stolen gym bag in the car and removed the keys from the Honda to ensure the burglars could not escape.

The owner of the home the suspects had stopped in front of was alerted by his barking dog and came outside with a firearm in hand. He held the suspects there until law enforcement arrived on the scene and took them into custody.

Seth Logan, 19, was charged with grand theft of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, armed burglary of a conveyance, and grand theft.

Vanessa Martinez, 17, was charged with armed burglary of a conveyance, grand theft of a firearm, and grand theft.
