Suspects sought in check cashing heist as string of armed robberies continues

Lee Herald Favicon 16The armed robbery of a checking-cashing service in a Fort Myers grocery store is the latest in a string of similar crimes over the last few weeks in Lee County.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, at 8:20 p.m. on Friday Feb.9, deputies responded to an armed robbery at A & E La Numero, located at 11530 South Cleveland Avenue. Reports say an armed suspect entered the building jumping onto a table and over a short wall to before pointing their gun at victims and demanding money.

The suspect fled after receiving cash from the register.

Witnesses describe the suspect as male, possibly hispanic, with light green eyes. He is approximately 5’8”, 160-170 pounds and wore all black, including a ski mask, during the robbery. The suspect did wear gloves with gray tops and red palms which may have been of the style used in construction work.

The robbery makes 12 since the last week of January.
