Tablet’s GPS leads police back to thieves

Lee Herald Favicon 16The tracking features on an Apple tablet led police to the couple who stole it, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say that Mikaela Dial, 19, and a 17-year old are accused of stealing a tablet from a car in Bonita Springs, then selling it off to an unsuspecting couple.

According to a release from LCSO, deputies were able to track the tablet by its GPS feature and found it was on the move. After finding the most recent location, detectives discovered a couple who had been sold the tablet, only to find it was still locked and password protected.

Deputies say the couple purchased the tablet in the driveway of Dial, and an arrest was made Saturday after the couple was able to identify her and the minor.

The two were booked into Lee County Jail, and charged with larceny, burglary, and dealing stolen property.
