New footage related to a homicide on Fort Myers Beach that is receiving nationwide attention was released by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.
In the video, security footage from Smokin’ Oyster Brewery on Fort Myers Beach, Lois Riess is seen on the evening of April 5.
Riess is the leading suspect in the murder of Pamela Hutchinson from around the same time. Hutchinson’s body was discovered in her hotel room early last week, but the timing of the video is near Hutchinson’s last known contact.
U.S. Marshals got involved in the case last week. It’s believed that Riess, also wanted in connection to the death of her husband in Minnesota, targeted Hutchinson with the intention of stealing her identity because they share a similar appearance.
“Ms. Hutchinson’s purse was found to be in disarray and all cash cards and identification appears to be removed,” Lee County Undersheriff Carmine Marceno said at a Thursday press conference. “Riess’ mode of operation is to befriend women who resemble her and steal their identity.”
The murder of Hutchinson is the highest profile in a string of unrelated homicides that have rolled through Lee County in just over a week.
LCSO said Sunday morning that it was investigating a homicide in Lehigh Acres after a disturbance call made Saturday night.
Ricky Ligonde, 20, was arrested last week for the murder of a cab driver in Lehigh Acres on April 7. Marceno said it didn’t appear to be a crime of passion.
“Though our investigation is far from over, it appears the victim was set up for this crime, and then brutally and senselessly murdered,” said Marceno while speaking to reporters announcing the arrest.
A double homicide in Estero saw a major police presence across the street from Estero Community Park on Monday.
