Deputies have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a driver in Lehigh Acres that occurred during a robbery last weekend.
According to Undersheriff Carmine Marceno, deputies responded to a vehicle crash early Saturday morning, April 7, at 31st Street West and Ruth Avenue in Lehigh Acres. They discovered a male victim who had been shot several times inside a silver Dodge Caravan. The victim was later identified as Hinso Estreplit, 46, a self-employed taxi driver.
After an investigation, detectives determined the shooting to be a robbery and, after identifying a suspect, obtained a search warrant for 4632 26th Street Southwest in Lehigh. Marceno said that additional evidence was found at the residence and as a result Ricky Ligonde, 20, was arrested and charged with murder while engaged in a felony and robbery with a firearm. No bond amount has yet been set.
“Though our investigation is far from over, it appears the victim was set up for this crime, and then brutally and senselessly murdered,” said Marceno. “The investigation remains open and active, and additional leads are being pursued as we speak.”
The undersheriff also said this was an isolated incident and is not connected to any other cases.
“I promise you we will leave no stone unturned, and bring justice to the victim and his family,” Marceno said.
