Lee Herald Favicon 16The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man shot by a deputy in San Carlos Park on Saturday as Guillermo Mendoza, 58.

LCSO identified the deceased in a news release on Monday, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

One suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting during a domestic violence incident in San Carlos Park.

According to Undersheriff Carmine Marceno, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence call around 4:23 p.m. at 15196 DuPont Drive.

After securing the safety of a reporter, the deputies began a search of the premises. Marceno said that during the search, deputies encountered an armed suspect.

“That suspect pointed that firearm at our deputies who were then forced to engage the suspect with deadly force.” said Marceno. “The suspect is now deceased, and our deputies are uninjured.“

The undersheriff said that the deputies involved in the incident will be put on administrative leave, per sheriff’s office policy, and the major crimes division will investigate.

Marceno also stated that he was unable to take questions because the investigation was active and ongoing.
