The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identify the suspect in an attempted robbery at a Dollar General store on New Year’s Day.
According to law enforcement, at around 11 a.m. New Year’s Day, a light skinned, possibly biracial, male entered the Dollar General located at 18911 S. Tamiami Trail in San Carlos Park. The clerk told deputies that he immediately felt the man was suspicious and looked like he was checking out the store with the intent to commit a crime.
After paying for an item in cash, the suspect told the clerk to “give me your cash,” according to an LCSO release. The employee ignored the suspect’s instructions, and the man seemed to lose his nerve and fled on foot without any stolen items or cash.
The suspect, who was caught on security footage, was described as 6-foot tall, 135 pounds, and approximately 25 years old, with a short black goatee. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark hoodie, and large aviator sunglasses at the time of the attempted robbery.
