Smoking bandits take truck stop for $2,200 in cigarettes

Lee Herald Favicon 16A pair of thieves took a Fort Myers truck stop for over $2,000 in cigarettes on Wednesday morning, authorities say.

According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking two black males who walked into the Pilot truck stop at Interstate 75 and Luckett Road in Fort Myers and distracted a clerk in order to steal several cartons of Newport cigarettes.

In total, 33 cartons of cigarettes were stuffed into a trash bag while the clerk was distracted.

According to Crime Stoppers and surveillance footage, one suspect was wearing a black long sleeve shirt and long pants, along with a skull cap. The other was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and a blue baseball cap with orange writing. The suspects were traveling in a white four door sedan.
