S.T.A.R.S. Complex to Provide Morning Safe Haven for Local Students

Lee Herald Favicon 16The Dr. Ann Murphy Knight S.T.A.R.S. Complex will be offering a safe, morning environment, prior to the start of each school day, beginning on April 28.

The S.T.A.R.S. “Middle School Sunrise Club” will assist parents and caregivers in need of early morning supervision for their children. Beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 8:30 a.m., students of Dunbar, Fort Myers, and Cypress Lake middle schools will be able to safely and quietly complete homework, study or request staff assistance.

“This is a great opportunity for students to complete any unfinished homework or get homework assistance,” explains Gary Bostic, Senior Recreation Center Manager with the City of Fort Myers. “They can use their school-issued tablets or the S.T.A.R.S. computer lab. Students can also receive on-site tutoring in trouble subjects before school.”

Transportation will be provided from the complex to the aforementioned schools through the Lee County School District.
