Fort Myers Man Struck, Killed on Laredo Avenue

Lee Herald Favicon 16On Monday evening, April 18, at approximately 9:39 p.m., Rakeem Bailem, 23, was walking on Laredo Avenue in a westerly direction.

Also travelling westbound, on the same roadway, was 17-year-old Judas McKenzie.  His 1996 Buick Century was approaching Heiman Avenue, just east of Ortiz Avenue in Fort Myers.

For reasons unknown, the Buick struck Bailem while walking.

Bailem was ground-transported to Lee Memorial Hospital and was pronounced deceased.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, drugs/alcohol did not play a role in the accident.  The report did not mention if charges are pending.
