Man Almost Beaten to Death in Ave Maria

“naplesA man was found badly beaten in Ave Maria on Jan. 16.

As a result of his injuries, he was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital, where deputies feared he might not make it.

Reports say two suspects made off with his iPhone and $400. Deputies also say at least one of the suspects was related to the victim.

While at Lee Memorial Hospital, reports say the victim suffered a brain hemorrhage, was put in a medically induced coma and was also put on a breathing tube.

On Thursday, 25-year-old Christopher Rondel Ramos was arrested on suspicion of committing a felony battery. There is another suspect, but they were not named in reports because an arrest has not yet been made.

When the victim woke up, deputies say he told his mother that Ramos, of the 3000 block of North Airport Road in Naples, and another suspect “were the ones who did this to him.”

Around 7 p.m. Jan. 16, reports say the “dazed” victim was found “staggering” around in the road. Deputies say he was badly beaten and barely able to communicate.

According to the arrest report, he was only able to tell deputies he was beaten by two men and thrown from a vehicle.

Deputies said at least one of the suspects was a cousin of the victim and the victim “frequently” hangs out with them. The victim’s brother also told deputies that him and his brother were with Ramos the night before the attack at Ramos’s Naples apartment.

According to the arrest report, the victim had a cut above one eye; cut, swollen and bleeding lips; an “extremely” swollen jaw; and marks on both sides of his face and head.

Deputies say the victim was picked up from his home and driven to the other suspect’s house. Reports say the victim did not want to go, but he felt like he had no choice.

While in the upstairs music room of the other suspect’s home, reports say Ramos “suddenly punched the victim in the face.”

Deputies say the other suspect also punched the victim and hit him on the top of the head with a handgun.

The two suspects then drove the victim to Omar’s Department Store in Immokalee, reports say, to buy a plain white T-shirt and get rid of his bloody gray hooded sweatshirt.

Ramos, the other suspect and the victim then went back to the other suspect’s home and, according to deputies; the victim was beaten again for allegedly stealing money and jewelry from the other suspect’s wife.

Reports say a phone video captured the incident and the unnamed suspect punched the victim, who was already in a dazed stupor, on the right side of his face and then stomped on his head.

The Collier County sheriffs office’s website says Ramos is currently in the custody of the Collier County sheriffs department.
