Deputies say a North Fort Myers carpet cleaner with an affinity for pawn shops pocketed a $2,700 Omega necklace from a Naples woman’s home last December while he was working in her bathroom.
Reports say the suspect, Jason Michael Manning, 25, of the 10000 block of Pioneer Road in North Fort Myers, has an extensive pawn history dating back to 2010, with six transactions this past year.
The victim initially declined to press charges, deputies said, if she could get her necklace back.
But according to reports, Manning sold the necklace to Executive Bullion in Fort Myers the next day, and deputies said it had already been melted down.
When she learned she could not get her necklace back, the victim decided to go ahead and press charges.
Manning turned himself in to deputies Thursday and was charged with a felony count of grand theft between $300 and $5,000.
